How to properly maintain your lashes in the summer heat

If you are a fellow North Carolinian, then you already know the hot Summer temperatures are here to stay! With Memorial Day right around the corner, we’ve put together a helpful list of tips that will keep your lashes on point as the temperatures continue to rise.

Keep a safe distance from heat sources! Extreme heat can cause lash adhesive to breakdown and the extensions could become brittle and start to fray. Ask someone else to flip the burgers at your next BBQ, they’ll understand!

Use oil free products. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, stay away from beauty products that contain oil as it can breakdown bonds in the adhesive causing poor retention and premature shedding. You should already be using a daily sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays so be sure to find one that is oil free and lash friendly. We recommend Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution Sunscreen because it is oil free and lightweight.

Ditch mascara. Really, with lash extensions you don’t need it! Although it might be tempting to add some mascara to your extensions for a big night on the town but we don’t recommend it. Components of some mascaras can cause a poor reaction leaving your lash extensions looking clumped and sparse. If you are interested in a more dramatic look, talk to your lash artist about Volume Lashes.

Give extensions 24 hours to dry. Keep your lash extensions away from water for a day or so after application. This helps the adhesive set completely which results in better retention. You should always avoid submerging lashes and putting them under direct water. If you do take a dip in the ocean or pool, be sure to wash your lashes as chlorine and salt water can also break down adhesive.

Brush your lashes! You wouldn’t go weeks without brushing your hair, so why do the same for your extensions? Use a mascara wand daily to gently comb and fluff your extensions. Additionally, there are some great lash cleansers on the market (check out Lash Affair’s Chrissanthie Lid Cleanser) that will help with aftercare.

Cheers to the Summer of 2016!
