As we continue to see a spread of COVID-19 throughout the United States, it’s important that salon owners (and really everyone in the beauty industry) make health and safety a top priority. Here are a few sanitation tips that are especially important in this time of uncertainty.
Don’t Panic
It’s hard to avoid the headlines, buzz, and sensationalization of the COVID-19 virus. It’s easy to jump to the worst-case scenario. Stay grounded and follow the recommendations of the Center For Disease Control and area officials HERE. As a business owner, it’s important that you stay up-to-date on the outbreak and monitor suggestions and recommendations based on your region.
Follow Standard Board Rules & Regulations
As a lash artist, there are certain sanitation procedures we follow for health and safety on a daily basis. Now, in the heat of the Coronavirus outbreak, it’s even more important to maintain exceptional sanitation within your salon or workspace. For my friends in the beauty industry, please keep in mind…
- You must wash your hands between client services.
- Hot wax containers should never be left uncovered.
- Any disposable implement such as orange sticks, emery boards, facial sponges, toe separators, wax applicators should be discarded after use, never reused. A good rule of thumb is “disinfect or discard.”
- Absolutely every item of equipment must be disinfected or discarded. Only non-porous items are capable of meeting the EPA standard of disinfection.
- Dry storage of disinfected tools requires isolation from contaminated items.
- Clippers must be cleaned, disinfected and stored in a closed container between uses.
- Disinfectants should never come in contact with a client’s skin, all tools and implements must be thoroughly rinsed and dried.

Wear a mask- you’re health is important, too!
Don’t forget to brush lashes with alcohol if they have been left uncovered for too long. These extra measures of precaution can go a long way in the health and safety of you and those you love!
Make The Health of You & Your Family A Priority
If you’re like me, it’s rare that you’d cancel a lash appointment because you aren’t feeling well. An outbreak like the Coronavirus is different. You could be putting the health and safety of many people you love at risk. If you have symptoms of any kind, now is not the time to push through.
If necessary in your area, create a coronavirus or flu policy to put in place immediately. We understand that lash addiction is real, but nothing is more important than the health and safety of you, your clients, and your families.
