During this time of year, education is on everyone’s mind. From Kindergarten classrooms to college dormitories and medical school residencies, students across the country are headed back to school to advance their education which got us thinking about educational standards in the lash extension industry. For example, did you know that Texas is the only state that currently offers a speciality license for eyelash professionals? In the spirit of the season, it’s time for us to put the spotlight on educational standards in the lash industry. From education and quality training to safety and beyond, we are asking legislators to raise the bar on standards in our industry!
Firstly, let’s talk about a great group of people already working to grow the lash extension industry through advocacy, education, legislation, safety and superior practices; The American Eyelash Association (AEA). On behalf of iLashCharlotte and 5 Star Beauty, Allison is a proud member of the AEA and believes that there are a lot of issues facing the lash extension industry, as highlighted on the AEA website, that need to be changed.
One of the first things we need to do is raise the standard on education and quality training. Many eyelash extension certification programs are done over the course of only 8 hours and lack advancement and continued network support. iLashCharlotte recommends the luxury brand Lash Affair by J. Depending on different state-to- state requirements, there are a lot of factors that allow non-licensed professionals to preform lash extension services without regulation. Additionally, we should also push for uniformed requirements for educators to ensure that they too meet requirements such as advanced education and practical hands-on experience.
