5 Common Eye Irritations Lash Lovers Suffer During Fall

by | Sep 27, 2018 | Customers

Last weekend marked the official start to fall! It’s time to roll out the pumpkin spiced lattes, boots, and annoying eye irritations. Yes, it’s that time of year again. The time when many clients develop sensitivity, irritation, and/or allergies because of the changing seasons. Here’s a closer look at five common eye irritants and what you can do about them.

Eye Allergies

Do red, uncontrollably itchy eyes sound familiar? If so, this probably isn’t your first round of seasonal allergies. Allergies are no fun! Whether due to the high pollen count or pet dander, they can be very irritating. The good news is that clients with allergies can take precautions and still enjoy their lash extensions. It’s important to identify your allergy trigger and eliminate it (as best as you can). Some of our clients take Bendryal before their appointment for additional comfort, but be sure to ask your doctor before taking any medication.

Conjunctivitis

Better known as pink eye, conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is a clear mucus membrane that lines the inside of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye. Now that school is back in session, it’s more likely that your child can develop (and pass on) pink eye. If you are a lash lover who has developed pink eye, you’ll probably be ask to return once your condition is medically cured. We wouldn’t risk infecting other clients or ourselves. The good news is that conjunctivitis is easily treatable under proper medical care.

Blepharitis

This eye irritation commonly causes red, crusty eyelids. You might notice some extra skin flakes (gross, I know) on your pillow in the morning. It can be caused by sensitivity (possibly from allergies) or poor hygiene. Blepharitis is also a huge red flag for an allergic reaction to eye lash extensions or adhesive. If you have swollen, flake eyelids immediately following your lash appointment, contact your lash artist for further instructions. You’ll need to remove the irritant right away.

Dry Eye

’Tis the season of indoor heaters, low humidity and overused air filters. Dryness is one of the most common eye complaints people have during this time of year. Luckily, dry eye is more of a chronic condition that’s easily treatable with over-the-counter drops. If your dry eye impacts your vision or your daily ability to function, it’s time to make an eye appointment!

Debris

The gusty fall winds  can whip up anything!  From leaves to dust and dirt, environmental debris can cause a temporary eye irritation. If you have a sudden onset of pain in one or both eyes, start by washing your hands then using an approved saline solution to clean your eyes. Of course, if you came in contact with a chemical or other dangerous substance, don’t wait to head to the nearest emergency room!

Eye irritants are sometimes just a part of life. This is just one of the many reasons why it pays to work with an experienced lash artist. We’ve seen it all and can help guide you in the right direction for optimal lash and eye health.
