Busting The Lash Primer Myth

The beauty industry is flooded with products and services. Some good, some bad. Some worth it, and some not. There’s literally a sea of products that would take a lifetime to sort through. So, how do you know what’s worth using and what’s not?

Trial and personal experience is one way, but an easier (and more affordable) way is to take the advice of a professional. At iLashCharlotte, we don’t know everything there is to know about all of the beauty products on the market. However, we do know lashes and here’s why you should skip the lash primer.

The main reason is because most primers contain alcohol which dries out the lashes. They’ll become brittle and unhealthy and we all know the key to a lasting set of lashes is having healthy natural lashes. It’s ironic that a lash primer can actually cause poor retention because it’s a product marketed as a retention booster (insert eye roll).

The only time a lash artist should consider using a lash primer is in the case of very oily lashes. Obviously, the alcohol acts as a drying agent that could soak up excess oil and provide a stronger base. All you really need is a saline to clean and prep the lashes. If lashes are really dry, add some water.

This doesn’t mean you should skip cleaning the natural lashes in fear of poor retention. Again, the key to long-lasting lashes starts with a healthy, solid base. A simple saline will rinse away average oils and debris without overdrawing like a primer. For those ladies lashing, I’d love to hear your feedback on lash primers. Comment below.
