How To Deal With ‘Working Mom Guilt’

Mother’s Day is a very special day for me. Not only because of the tremendous impact my mother has in my life, but because I’m blessed that someone calls me mom.

As a full-time business owner, entrepreneur, and trainer, sometimes I struggle in trying to figure out the perfect work/life balance. Maybe it doesn’t exist?

But, the one thing I know for sure is that above all of those titles, nothing is more important than being a mom.

There have been times where I feel like I’m missing out or could have been there more. This is when I learned to make time with my son count. I got an idea while reading the autobiography of Shonda Rhimes, ‘The Year of Yes’. Shonda gives at least 15 minutes of her undivided attention when her children ask for it. I realized with my own son if he asks for my attention, I try and give it to him immediately so that he knows he’s my priority.

To my surprise, it doesn’t even take 15 minutes before he doesn’t need my attention anymore. It’s amazing!

If I have to do something important to do I simply explain I’ll get back to him or see him later and he understands. This was an amazing tip and every mom should consider it. It’s been a game changer for me.

When I am working, I remind myself that I’m showing my son what it means to work hard and create your own success in life. This Mother’s Day, when asked, “What does mom do for a living?” His answer, “Eyelashes!” ?

Don’t let social media posts of elaborate vacations, picture-perfect homes, and all day snuggle sessions bring you down. The 15 min you make count can mean the world to your child or loved one.

You are enough on Mother’s Day and Every Day!
