Gaps Be Gone: How To Fix Natural Lash Gaps

Gaps in lashes can be a natural occurrence for some clients. They could also be a result of a condition or trauma. Depending on the size and cause of the gap, there are ways you can work your lash magic to help fill in the empty spaces and create a gorgeously full set of lashes.

To start, analyze the natural lashes that surround the gap. These lashes are essential because they will work as anchors in a bridge. You’ll also want to assess the overall condition of a client’s lashes to determine whether or not they are a good candidate for lash extensions in general.

How many gaps are there? What is the underlying cause of the gap? How big is the gap? These are all questions you should think about before you start lashing. Some clients might need to use a serum to build up the strength of their natural lashes and others might be better candidates for something like a lash lift instead. Offer your professional opinion. Set the right expectations by being honest.

If you decide the gap can be filled, there are a few ways to approach the task. The first way would be to angle the lashes to fill the gap. Create a custom fan by hand that includes angled lashes toward the gap to help fill it in. The angled lashes will help close the gap and create the illusion of a full lash line.

The second way would be to build an actual bridge out of lash extensions. Just like it sounds, you can build a bridge by placing a lash extension horizontally to connect the anchor lashes on both sides of the gap. You can begin to add vertical lash extensions to the bridge once the horizontal lash is in place and reinforced.

No matter which method you choose to fill the gap, you’ll have to work carefully so you don’t damage the lashes that surround the gap. Putting too much weight on the natural lashes could result in further damage and you don’t want to create a bigger gap!
