How To Conquer Top Lash Issues In 2019

by | Jan 4, 2019 | Lash Education, Students

The new year is always a great time to refresh and refocus. This is the time I like to
simplify and take a step back for a clear mind. What I’ve learned over the years is that nothing is more valuable than mastering the basics. Advanced techniques come with time, but poor lash application techniques can be hard to break. If you’re making one of these top mistakes, here are a few quick fixes to help get you on the right track.

Retention Issues

This one tops the list! Poor retention is a tricky issue. It could be by fault of the lash
artist…or it could be caused by poor client care. To start, try another adhesive. Make sure you are properly storing you adhesive so it doesn’t cure prior to application (read your adhesive guidelines). Also, think about your technique when applying the lashes. Good retention is all about proper positioning so find an application technique that works for you.

If you know it’s not you (or your adhesive), it’s time to have a heart to heart with your
client. Ask her about her daily lifestyle. Is she exposed so elements that might compromise retention (think steam, water etc.). Is your client applying mascara or using oil-based beauty products? These are all issues that can lead to poor retention. Help clients out with an after-care guide.

Your Sets Are Taking Too Long

If a classic set is taking you 3+ hours than it’s probably time to take a step back. Though
you shouldn’t compromise quality for speed, it’s important to make sure you are providing professional services for the price. Before you offer lashes, make sure you are confident! Practice on friends, family members, co-workers…really anyone willing. Remember, perfect practice makes perfect.

Adhesive Issues

Problems finding the right adhesive? Make sure you’ve completed a quality training
program that reviews all the tips and tricks for proper adhesive storage. Some common issues I’ve seen with adhesive are caused by poor storage, improper humidity levels, and flat out misinformation. Don’t be afraid to ask around for some advice! Of course, adhesive brands are a matter of preference but an industry pro would likely be willing to help you out! We’re all about supporting one another at iLash Charlotte and everyone could use a mentor.

If you are thinking of starting out a career in lashes this year, there’s time to join us for
the first class of the year on January 20-21!
