Have you ever had a medical appointment or procedure with a doctor who had horrible bedside manner? If so, then you know how awful, scared, and unsure it can make you feel. Even if the doctor meant well, maybe he/she used a poor choice of words that totally threw you into an (unnecessary) panic attack.
Luckily, lash artists don’t provide medical advice or services, but we still have a certain ‘bedside’ manner we must keep. Choosing the right words can help put a client’s mind at ease, let them know they are in good hands, and really show off your professionalism.
Here are 3 things you should never say in front of a client…
“Glue” – Glue + eyes + panic! Try painting a better picture. Instead of using the word glue, opt for “adhesive” … a painless and relaxing process during which I’ll adhere lash extensions to your natural lashes.
Anything Political. We ALL know how heated this topic can be- especially in today’s society. It feels like we’re more divided than ever sometimes. Remember that your lash studio is a place of business. There’s plenty to talk about during a 1.5 hour lash appointment so pick something other than politics!
Other Lash Artists. Unless you’re singing songs of praise about a fellow lash friend or coworker, don’t gossip. It’s unprofessional and can turn some clients off. Even if you are taking over and repairing a horrible job by another lash artist, be sure to choose your words in a professional manner. Let your experience and confidence win them over.
Above all, it’s important to continue to educate your clients to help them make decisions about the health, safety, and quality of their lashes. This is something we pride ourselves on at iLash Charlotte. Don’t be afraid to offer your expertise.
