Why you shouldn’t remove your lashes at home

The Internet is full of great DIY projects! From renovating your kitchen table to baking the perfect Thanksgiving pie, Google has become our best friend. Even though we love a good DIY project, removing your eyelash extensions is NOT one of them! Not only can you ruin your natural lashes, but you can seriously damage the health of your eye.

Remember, lash artists train extensively to learn a variety of techniques to properly remove your lashes safely and quickly if needed. So, even if it may seem much easier to pull out your lap top, trust us when we say risking the safety of your eyes is not worth it!

To start, there are several techniques that lash artists use to remove your lashes. First, we’ll determine which technique is best for your lashes and current situation. The banana peel method is an effective way to remove grown out lashes during refill appointments. In this method, your artist will grip your natural lash with tweezers and gently peel the extension with another set of tweezers.

Sounds easy, however, only a trained professional can tell which lashes are overgrown and already lifted from the base. Pulling out a secure extension could cause serious damage to your natural lashes. If you’re looking for a complete removal, your lash artist will use a gel bond remover.

If you’re looking to completely remove your lashes without a refill, your lash artist can use a special gel or cream that gently loosens the adhesive. The issue with trying this at home, is that if the gel seeps into your eye, you can be seriously injured. Only a trained professional knows how to keep your eyes safe. Also, please forget about what you read about using olive oil to remove lashes!

Even though we know it can be a hassle to make a follow-up appointment with your artist, it’s so important. Self-removal will only cause more damage and extra issues; not worth it!
