Behind every beautiful set of lashes should be a happy, comfortable client. As a Lash Artist, customer satisfaction is a huge priority. However, even more importantly, client comfort should be at the top of your priority list. After all, lashes can take anywhere from 45 minutes for fills to 2+ hours for full sets so comfort is key! A common complaint and cause of irritation is improper tape placement. Today, we’ll share a few tips that will help you tape properly.
One of the biggest mistakes lash artists make is getting the tape or gel pad too close to the sclera, the protectant outer coating of our eyes. In fact, the sclera forms more than 80 percent of the surface area of the eyeball, extending from the cornea all the way to the optic nerve, which exits the back of the eye. It’s an easily irritated part of the eye, especially when debris (like tape) come into contact.
To avoid unnecessary irritation, be sure to use only two pieces of tape. Piling on more pieces will only cause problems. Also, make sure that the tape goes over the nose. Do not have it meet at the edge of the eye’s inner corner.
Additionally, to help with proper tape and gel pad placement, back sure your client look straight up (instead of back). This will help keep extra lashes from popping out.
Remember, if you should come in contact with a client’s eye, be sure to refer them to receive medical care. Lash Artists are not Optometrists. The eye is one of the most sensitive organs in our bodies and any serious damage should be treated properly. Also, no matter what you see on Google, NEVER use a cream or gel around the eye (like Vaseline). This will not help redness or watering.
