America’s biggest summer holiday is less than a week away! Before we gather to celebrate with picnics, vacation and fireworks, we thought it would be fun to compare American beauty trends with those from around the globe. Here’s a few beauty trends Americans love that some other cultures just don’t get…
Tanning. There’s been enough studies to show the harm UV rays and indoor tanning can do, yet some people (gasp) still decide to undergo this “beauty” trend. In fact, we’re so obsessed as a culture with getting a “flawless glow” that we’ve come up with a variety of safe alternatives…spray tans, self-tanners etc. Tanned skin has become the gold standard for weddings, proms and other big events. Many European and Asian cultures view sun protection as the beauty norm. They are more willing to embrace their (sunless) glow and go au naturel.
Makeup Obsessed. Who doesn’t love makeup? Our makeup bags are packed with primers, shimmers, base coats, finishing sprays and everything in between! We have SO many makeup products floating around out there it’s almost impossible to keep up. Of course, we all have our own opinions on how much makeup is “too much”, but European women tend to embrace skincare over makeup. However, if you’ve ever walked the streets of Paris, you’ll notice a lot of beautiful bold lip colors and rouge cheeks.
Hair Removal. Americans have a salon for everything! Think about it- waxing, hair, nails, lashes (yay!). One of the things we love to do that’s part of our culture is wax, pluck, thread and simply remove the hairs we don’t want. We’ve got so many methods of hair removal from old-fashioned plucking to new age lasers that it’s easy to find a method that works for you! Hair removal is strictly a cultural (and personal) preference. In some countries, women don’t even believe in shaving- Girl Power!
Whatever the trend or your culture, at iLash Charlotte we say DO YOU! Don’t let anyone’s beauty standards get in the way of making yourself feel good while you look great!!
