A new month is a great time to focus on what the future holds! Although it’s not healthy to dwell in the past, it’s important to learn from your mistakes. I’ll be the first to say I’ve had many of them, personally and professionally, but who hasn’t?
Mistakes are blessings because they give us the opportunity to grow. So, instead of talking about mistakes, I wanted to share three things that I wish I knew 5 years ago-hope it’s helpful!
1. How To Style Lashes. That might sound like a weird statement coming from a lash artist but I mean I wish I knew how to really style lashes like I do now. It wasn’t until I joined the Lash Affair team that I realized that styling a client’s lashes upside down with their eyes closed was totally wrong! Maven solidified a more detailed styling approach for me in her amazing face studies class. This is a good reminder to always have mentors to help push and motivate you to be your best!
2. Hire people that want to work with you, not for themselves. If you’re thinking about expanding your brand, do a more thorough interview process. Get to the bottom of their reasoning. Try and understand a person’s intention before you hire them. Everyone needs to benefit from working together but being a team player is the only way to go!
3. You don’t have to spend money to market yourself. I’ve spent thousands of dollars trying advertising and marketing strategies, while I’ve benefited some from my efforts, I’ve realized that good ‘ol social media marketing works fine if you stay engaged and create quality content. It takes time and a little money but you will see results without breaking the bank! Remember, one of the best things about being a lash artist, from a business standpoint is that you have low overhead each month. It doesn’t cost much to keep lash supplies stocked so don’t blow your profit on marketing without return.
