Golden Rules: 3 pro tips for every lash artist

Though styles, lengths and curls will change from client to client, there are some things that should remain consistent in your lash routine. It’s true that practice makes perfect when it comes to applying lash extensions, but follow these three rules and you’ll be on your way to a great set of lashes every time!

1. Never glue an extension to the entire lash. It’s important to leave a little room at the root (1-2 mm) to ensure that the lash doesn’t come in contact with your client’s skin which could cause a reaction. Additionally, one of the most important things we can do as lash artists is to attach each extension at a 90 degree angle to prevent the lashes from leaning one way or crisscrossing. Be sure to apply the adhesive to the base of the lash extension and not the entire lash. If the base of the extension is not properly attached to the natural lash, the extension can lift and shed prematurely.
2. Use double-handed isolation when applying your lash extensions. The best way to ensure that your glue doesn’t dry too quickly is to get in the habit of isolating first for better retention. It’s also important to find a lash adhesive that works for you. Whether you choose a quick-set glue (we recommend Lash Affair’s The One Ultimate Bond) or one that sets with time, it’s important to remember to isolate first! Never grab a lash extension and dip it in the adhesive until you’ve finished isolating. If your glue has already started to dry, you could run into major retention problems.

3. Manage your humidity levels! This is huge. Store your lash adhesive at humidity levels around 50% for better retention and adhesive quality. High humidity means more moisture in the air which can cause the glue to become too thick and result in poor retention. We recommend using a Hygrometer which accurately measures the moisture content in the atmosphere. Read more about storing your lashes in proper humidity levels here.

Happy Lashing!
