How To Take Your Lash Portfolio To The Next Level With A Professional Photoshoot

by | Jul 26, 2018 | Students

If you’ve been growing your lash business, then you know the importance of having a great lash portfolio. Keeping a current and impressive digital portfolio is an essential part of of success. Potential clients can use your portfolio as a way to truly evaluate your work. Snapping photos on your iPhone is great! Trust me, we all do it. But, sometimes you just have to take your photography to the next level. Here are some tips on how to prepare for your professional lash photoshoot.

1. Try a Collaboration. Short on cash? Try collaborating with a local photographer. Look for someone with a decent following and pitch the idea of a cross-promotion photoshoot. Stick to professionals in your area to really hit your target market. Tag each other, share each other’s photos etc. Collaborations can be fun and productive for both parties!

2. Experience Matters. If you’ve decided to shell out some cash for your photoshoot, be sure to do your research. Connect with photographers who have experience in the beauty and fashion industry. You’ll want someone to be able to capture those closeup lash shots so don’t just choose a friend with a camera.

3. Prepare. As I’m writing this post, I’m preparing for another professional shoot with In Vogue Photography. Having done this many times over the years, I can tell you that preparation is KEY. I arranged a call with my marketing director last week to discuss the specific shots we are looking for in our content. Don’t just show up to your photoshoot. Think about what you want from the photographer and email her a list ahead of time to help things run smoothly.

4. Find a Great Model. Don’t plan on meeting your lash model the day of the shoot! If possible, hand pick your model so you are familiar with her lashes. After all, you want these photos to be the best! We all know how important a healthy set of lashes can be…don’t risk it!

5. Be Creative. This is a follow up to point #3. You don’t need 25 photos of the same set of lashes. Work with the photographer to come up with creative shots that look completely different (even if you are using the same model). You don’t want to come home from the shoot with 3 photos out of 150 you can use because they are redundant.

I’m looking forward to sharing my next professional shoot with you all! Happy Lashing!
