How to clean up your makeup bag this fall

Oct 12, 2017

It’s a new season which means new clothes, new shoes, new hair and maybe even some new makeup! As the leaves begin to change, we’ll say goodbye to the corals of summer and hello to the plum and cherry tones of fall. This season, as you update your wardrobe accordingly, take the opportunity to really clean up your makeup bag just in time for seasonal allergies.

To start, think about all of the makeup tools you have in your bag. Now, think of the last time you properly washed them. Can’t remember? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! So many people forget to clean their makeup tools which can be really bad- especially for ladies with lash extensions.

Our eyes are one of the most delicate areas of the face. During a season of heightened allergies, it’s especially important keep your tools clean and free of allergens. After all, would you rub your fingers all over your eyes and face after touching bacteria ridden door knobs or keyboards? Well, your makeup tools aren’t much different.

When you have lash extensions, you should always keep your tools clean, sanitized and free of oils that can breakdown the adhesive. Here are are some tips that will help you clean keep your make-up tools clean so you don’t have to waste a fortune replacing them.

Tweezers

Let tweezers soak in a clean bowl of rubbing alcohol for about 15 minutes. Let dry on a clean cloth.

Makeup brushes and sponges

Step 1: Wet the bristles under warm, running water for 30-60 seconds.

Step 2: Put some soap on the bristles. Gently massage the soap with clean hands. We recommend using baby shampoo, a lash cleaner, or a specialty make up brush cleaner.

Step 3: Rinse. Make sure all of the soap is out so that you’re not getting soap residue in your makeup and on your face.

Step 4: Squeeze the water out and blot. Press the bristles through your clean hands to release the water. Just don’t squeeze too hard!

Step 5: Lay on a clean wash cloth or paper towel and let dry overnight.

Use the same process when cleaning a makeup sponge. Just repeat steps 2 and 3 and squeeze the sponge until the water runs clear.

Sharpeners

Empty all debris from inside your sharpener and clean with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol to remove bacteria.
