In addition to breast cancer awareness month, October is also Rett Syndrome awareness month. I became aware of Rett Syndrome when I met Lily. She is the daughter of my long-standing client Juliann. I’ve learned so much about Rett Syndrome over the past 4 years of Lily’s life.
Rett syndrome is a rare genetic mutation that affects brain development in girls. Symptoms include muscular disorders (the inability to walk, unable to control muscles), abnormal breathing patterns, inability to speak, seizures and many more obstacles to overcome.
I’ve been inspired by my client. She’s a powerhouse. She is always dressed to impress, has a smile on her face, and works very hard in her career, despite the challenges she faces as she raises her baby girl. Anytime life gets hard for me, I think of Juliann. If she can get up every day and do this thing called life, so can I.
Lily is making strides to fight for her life with multiple therapy appointments and has been a part of research development studies. This past week, she’s gotten a feeding tube. I am happy to report that she is doing well!
This month we have been offering a purple lash add on for $10 in support of research for this disease. If you’d like to donate, please inbox me.
Knowing Lily and my client has been a humbling experience. I appreciate the little things more. To watch my son run in a park is a privilege. Be thankful for every day and all that you have. Lily’s laugh is beautiful. If she can smile and laugh every day, so can we.
Positive vibes only!
