If you’ve been lashing for a while, chances are you’ve had to do a repair or two on someone else’s work. Over the years I’ve learned that some clients just don’t know what lash extensions should be. Often times, they come to me and their lashes are a mess. I’m not saying that to be rude, (if you read my posts then you know I’m ALL about supporting other lash artists) I’m saying that because it’s true! There’s too many lash artists out there who lack the experience and proper training that are giving lashes a bad rap. Have you ever experienced the following when it comes to lash extensions? If so, it’s probably time to find another lash artist!
1. Your extensions are all one length. Yes, this really happens and it happens because of lack of proper training. Lashing is an art. A good lash artist will use face mapping, eye shape, facial shape, lifestyle factors and natural lash condition to mix curls and lengths for a customized look.
2. Your eyes burn even after application. This is not normal! You can have some slight watering during the process but burning should NOT be part of the experience. It could actually indicate a serious problem and you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. It also could be a sign of poor application or caused by adhering extensions to your eye lids (skin).
3. Your lashes are tangled. Does brushing your lashes hurt and pull? Do they look criss-crossed and mangled? This is from poor isolation and improper lashing techniques.
4. They last 5 days. At iLash Charlotte, we recommend 2-3 week fills. If your lashes are falling out after a few days, then there’s a problem. I should mention that not all retention issues are caused by the lash artist. It’s worth mentioning to your lash artist your retention problems so she can work to help figure out the problem and find a solution.
5. They cost $25. Cringe! In the world of lashes, you get what you pay for. Remember that lash extensions are not clusters or flares. They are falsies or strip lashes. They are semi-permanent lash extensions applied individually in a strategic way.
