From the Big Apple to the Queen City: The Next Level of Lashes has Arrived!

May 19, 2015

This past weekend, iLash Charlotte owner Allie Williams traveled 532 miles to NYC to train with some of the industry’s finest. Under the instruction of award-wining cosmetologist Nadia Afanaseva, Founder and President of NM Beauty Corporation, Allie worked to perfect her skills in volume lash application. This revolutionary lash technique originated in Russia and recently burst onto the US beauty scene. Applying volume lashes requires a significant amount of skill as hundreds of lashes are applied to boost the volume and length of your natural lashes resulting in a dramatic look that gives clients the option to really pump up the volume of their lash line. So, are you still wondering what exactly makes volume lashes different from our signature lash extensions? We’ve broken down each lash option below to compare the differences and help decide what’s right for you.

Signature lashes (1D) – Compared to volume lashes, signature lashes create a more “natural looking” lash line. In this one-on-one technique, each natural lash receives one lash extension. A favorite of iLash Charlotte clients, these classic lashes are completely customizable allowing clients to choose their preferred type, curl and style.

3D lashes – This technique is one of the first levels of volume lash extensions allowing for 3 lash extensions per 1 natural lash. It’s a great option for signature lash clients who want to go to the next level because you can typically add around 100 more extensions per eye! How is this possible? Volume lashes are lighter and finer than signature lash options so you can add multiple extensions per eyelash without damaging the natural lash.

6D lashes – For the volume lash addict! If you are looking for the most dramatic, head-turning look then 6D lashes are for you. These lashes are applied at a 6:1 ratio meaning 6 extensions per 1 natural lash. These ultra light-weight lashes are applied by using a larger bond area with less glue resulting in stronger, more dramatic lashes.

If you are doing your volume lash homework, then you may come across terms such as 2D, 4D, 5D all the way up to 8D. The technique for applying these lashes is the same as explained above. The main difference is the amount of lash extensions applied to each natural lash which is defined by the number (i.e. 2D- 2 lash extensions per 1 natural lash, 4D- 4 lash extensions per 1 natural lash etc.). Regardless of which option you choose, you will need to take proper care of your extensions which means getting regular refills and staying away from facial care products that aren’t labeled “oil free”. Stay tuned for next week’s blog when we talk about caring for your lashes in the heat of summer.
