Let’s talk about makeup and your eyelash extensions.
It’s a topic we’ve talked about many times before, but it’s so important that it’s worth talking about again! The good news is you can wear makeup to enhance your beautiful lash extensions, but it’s important to understand the dos and don’ts. Let’s start with one of my cringe-worthy pet peeves….
Mascara and Lash Extensions
Please don’t! The two don’t really mix. Even the mascara marketed for lash extensions can still affect your retention. If you feel like you need to add more to your lash extensions, talk to your lash artist before reaching for a tube of mascara. I always recommend trying a hybrid or full-on volume set if you are looking for more fluff and definition along your lash line.
‘Waterproof’ Is A No No
Read your labels, ladies! Waterproof mascara and eyeliner are BIG no-gos when it comes to lash extensions. Make sure your face wash, scrubs, lotions, and makeup removers don’t contain oil. As a general red flag, glycol is a major retention killer and can continue to breakdown your extensions the more it continues to absorb.
Water-Based Liner Is OK
If you can’t live without your chunky cat eye, then opt for a water-based liner that will give you all the drama without damage. We recommend a liquid liner over pencils or creams. Be sure to apply your liner with caution so you don’t pull at the base of your lashes and disrupt your extensions.
Matte Eyeshadows Are Best
Again, stay away from cream-based eyeshadows that can cluster and clump. Dip a tight-bristled brush into the matte shadow and gently tap to remove excess power so it doesn’t get trapped into your extensions.
