Professional certification and licensing are different from industry to industry. Sometimes, the terms are interchangeable. And other times, like in the lash industry, the difference really matters. Before you book your lash appointment, make sure you do your homework.
A Licensed Lash Stylist
Out of the two terms, a licensed stylist is prestige. In the lash industry, a licensed stylist is a sign of professionalism. If your stylist is licensed, that means the North Carolina Cosmetology Board continually regulates them and holds them to state standards.
Going to a licensed stylist is essential not only for quality work but for your personal safety. If you’ve had a bad experience with an unlicensed stylist, report your experience to the board so this type of individual does not continue to practice improper safety procedures.
A Certified Lash Stylist
A certification does not give an unlicensed stylist the right to practice lashes professionally. A certification means that the stylist has likely self-educated themselves about the procedure. A certification alone is a red flag. Remember that advanced stylists typically hold multiple certifications. Do not pay premium pricing with stylists that have only been certified once.
